Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

Recognized as a leading creator of innovative, educational media for children, Out of the Blue was selected by the Fred Rogers’ Company to create, write and produce Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, the first original television series inspired by the classic PBS television show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. With the company’s unique creative vision, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood comes to life for a new preschool audience, teaching children 2-4 and their families’ practical strategies necessary for growing and learning. The vibrantly-colored animated series premiered in September 2012.

Television: The forty-episode series features the offspring of the original and beloved Neighborhood of Make-Believe characters, focusing on four-year-old Daniel Tiger and his preschool friends, as they learn the key social skills necessary for success in school and in life. Daniel speaks directly to the home viewer, inviting children into his world to learn important lessons in areas such as self-control, cooperation, and listening. Building on Fred Rogers’ legacy, each episode incorporates a musical strategy that gives parents and kids a concrete way to practice these behaviors. Out of the Blue is working with Canadian-based 9 Story Entertainment to bring award-winning animation capabilities to this new program.

Research: The research methods developed by Out of the Blue Enterprises are an integral part of the production process, ensuring that every episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is successfully communicating each pro-social strategy, developmentally appropriate and appealing and engaging. The Out of the Blue Enterprises Research Department conducts focus group research with preschoolers at three key stages of development – script, animatic and final animation. Findings from these research sessions help to inform the writing and production of each episode.

Licensing: Out of the Blue is handling all licensing and merchandising activities for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, developing a comprehensive branded consumer products program with category leaders in manufacturing and retail. Only Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood products will let children play and learn while inviting imagination, practicing school readiness skills, and singing memorable music from the show. The original products will extend the property’s entertainment and learning experience beyond television to products that can be used at home, in schools, and on the go.
